YouTube has a number of videos that show Wedding DJs doing their thing but with many of them, whether or not you would consider them good entertainment, really depends on the eye of the beholder!

Take a look at this clip from a Wedding in Torquay last year:

Dancing or miming to a song reminds me of the kind of entertainment you get from the local “Animation” team when you go on holiday abroad, good fun in the right setting but hardly skillful or a demonstration of real talent.

The problem I have with a DJ taking centre stage in this way is the fact the Bride & Groom where unaware he was going to do it and certainly didn’t condone it!

But just because it isn’t my taste, is it really a bad thing or a bit of fun to liven up proceedings? There are a number of things a DJ can do to entertain a crowd beyond playing music, was this just the wrong type of occasion? How about if an eighties night had been the setting and he encouraged others to join in, is it then cheesy good natured fun or stupid and pointless?

At the end of the day the Bride & Groom on this occasion didn’t know about it and didn’t want it, that makes the whole thing wrong in my opinion, but that doesn’t necessarily make him a bad DJ or entertainer, perhaps just a little misguided to think the same routine will be appreciatd by every crowd.

What about you? Love it or hate it? What if he did it at your Wedding?
